On October 1st, FMCU will become Georgia’s Own Credit Union!

What does this mean for you?

As a valued member, the biggest thing you’ll notice is the name change. All of the experienced employees who currently assist you will stay the same at the branch location. Your existing accounts with the Credit Union will also remain the same.

What you need to know

September 30 through October 1, 2021 is our planned system conversion. In addition to the current FMCU branch available to you now, after the system conversion, you will have access to the 29 Georgia’s Own locations in the Atlanta area, Augusta, Savannah, and Southwest Georgia; an extensive shared service center network across the United States; and more than 85,000 surcharge-free ATMs. With any system conversion, there may be some downtime. You will receive more detailed information closer to our conversion date. More details can be found in our Owner’s Manual.

Important Reminders

– The FMCU branch will be closed October 1st.
– Online Banking will also be unavailable September 30th and October 1st. On October 2nd, you can self-register for Online Banking using the “Online Banking Login” tab and clicking on “New User” at the upper-right corner of the website at georgiasown.org.
– If you have a debit card with FMCU, a Georgia’s Own debit card will be mailed to you in mid- to late September.

As a valued FMCU member, your membership will convert seamlessly to Georgia's Own at the end of September. At that time, all of the experienced employees and financial products you currently enjoy at FMCU will stay the same. In early October, you will start to see the new Georgia's Own name and branding as we begin the transition.
Georgia’s Own is one of the oldest, largest, and most trusted financial institutions in the state. They are headquartered in Atlanta, feature 29 branch locations, have robust mobile/digital channels, are members of the shared service center network—and like us, they do a tremendous amount of good in the communities. In 2020, Georgia's Own Credit Union and the Georgia's Own Foundation donated a combined $246,102 to the communities that they serve.

That means that in addition to the FMCU branch, after the system conversion, you will have access to the 29 Georgia’s Own locations in Metro Atlanta, Albany and surrounding areas, Augusta, and Savannah; their extensive shared service center network; and more than 85,000 surcharge-free ATMs. You’ll also be able to take advantage of the additional products and services that Georgia’s Own offers. With any system conversion, there may be some downtime. You will receive more detailed information closer to our conversion date.
Beginning October 1st, you will have full access to their 29 existing locations and enhanced product offerings.
Yes, the FMCU branch will remain in place, though you'll see the new name beginning in October 2021. The current hours of operations will be in place until January 1, 2022, at which time the new hours will be, 9am-4pm Monday through Thursday, 9am to 5:30pm on Fridays.
Your accounts will continue to be federally insured just as they are today through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund, which is backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. Government and managed by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).
The Credit Union will continue to serve all of the individuals and companies we currently serve today. Additionally, it will mean we can serve anyone in Georgia's Own Credit Union's field of membership.
You will still have the same products and services you have now. You may see some lower fees, and you’ll be able to take advantage of Georgia’s Own expanded product offerings.
